You can actually make it easier on yourself by jumping into your most challenging studies first, or at least early in the session. Your mind is fresh and it is more productive to view the hardest subjects more than once. Starting early on tough subjects allows for that. If you have to, break away and come back to the hardest topic, but jump in right away. Notice how you feel after you do that. Better than putting it off? Yep!
DID YOUR MOM MENTION THIS GOOD STUDY TIP? Two good study tips are often overlooked or placed as footnotes on the last page of study manuals. Exercise your body and feed your brain! O.K. I’ve said it. Now I hope you’ll do it! The effects of exercise and diet are cumulative and very important. Get some exercise, and make sure you’re not hungry or dehydrated during your study session. Your brain needs a constant stream of nutrients, and doesn’t have a large storage area…so keep those nutrients coming. Your stress levels will go down and your grades will go up! TIME MANAGEMENT Once you begin the study period, don’t multitask! Doing two things at once means you will do both of them less effectively. You will also enjoy your free time more if you set a time for it, and fully relax into it. During your study time, keep distractions to a minimum. You can learn more about setting up a time management system by clicking here. The very phrase time management may make you a little bit drowsy, but you might like to know that the very best students have a built-in knack for keeping a good schedule. This is a great time to model success. WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM YOUR FRIENDS Study groups are a great way to enhance learning IF the focus stays on topic. You need not always study alone, and in a group setting, you will be exposed to different ways of thinking and working with concepts. As you teach each other, you will learn together, and socialization skills will be enhanced to. You will find some of the best study tips in a group of likeminded students. Especially when a few of you have different study methods to offer. FINAL THOUGHTS ON GOOD STUDY TIPS It may seem a bit daunting to go through the process of setting goals and following through with all the ideas above, but if you’re like most students, you will be repaid many times over for your efforts. Remember - good study tips are only going to help you if you keep using them!

If you’re up against final exams or just looking for a way to improve your overall grade point average, here are some good study tips that can guide you in the right direction.
The first thing to keep in mind is that the quest for the best grade during your final exam begins in class on day one. The way you build your study program and the way you deal with time management can make or break any good study tips you find along the way! I’ll be honest. I’ve done some all-nighters just before exams, and pulled down some pretty decent grades. If you’re reading this you probably know the feeling. But if not- don’t go there! There is really no need to, and there’s more than a few reasons not to. If you make some efforts now to follow through on these good study tips, you will probably be able to avoid all-nighters for good! LAYER UPON LAYER Judging from the best research, it seems like our memory grows best like an onion- layer upon layer. Studies have shown that students who study a subject consistently over a period of time do better than those who “cram” just before exams. During those last minute cram sessions, we can definitely pack in the data, but research shows that a month later, the average brain reacts as if the subject is almost totally new. It’s like the bathtub memory syndrome. Pull the plug after the exam and everything is gone! So the best time to start preparing for exams is when you build your study schedule. Make sure you allocate multiple time slots for the toughest subjects. It’s one good study tip that will pay off big time. MINI EXAMS = MAX RESULTS One of the most powerful good study tips for exam preparation is to incorporate mini exams from the very start. As soon as material is available, and you’ve transferred it to your study guide, begin giving yourself exams. Group study sessions can really help here. Through the act of actually recalling what you’ve studied so far, you will retain more than if you just reread the material. Research is conclusive on this one, so begin early and follow through for better grades! READ IT, WRITE IT, SPEAK IT You will also absorb more if you study the material using different modalities. Read the material in your textbook. Transfer the material to 3X5 study cards, and rotate through those. That is two modalities so far (reading and writing). Then speak out loud the key things to remember. Give yourself a lecture on what you just assimilated. If you join a study group, take turns verbalizing the material with each other. Now you’ve used three modalities instead of one, and your mind can cement the information in a more powerful way. As technology becomes more advanced, people must learn how to accommodate a new way of doing everyday tasks. Even college life has become transformed thanks to the popularity of the Internet. Years ago many may have never dreamed of such as thing as online college and universities. There are even online textbooks now available for students to download and read at their leisure. To say times have changed is perhaps one of the biggest understatements around. Students entering college are among those that should be well prepared in all aspects, including purchasing the latest equipment like laptops. Below are important factors that should be taken into consideration while shopping for this item.
Do Your Homework There are more brands, makes and models for laptops than one can count. Because of the wide variety to choose from, it is essential that college students conduct research to find out which types of laptops are considered worth investing in. There are plenty of online product reviews, where students can read about other people’s experiences with a different laptop makes and models, including a list of pros and cons. Knowing this type of information beforehand will help narrow down the list of choices. Make It Work For You Although all laptops may appear the same, they are not. It is helpful to decide what you want your laptop to do for you and how you plan on using it during your college years and beyond. Do you need a lot of hard drive space to accommodate large files, such as school projects, video files and other related items? Does size and weight matter? It could, especially if you’re planning on carrying your laptop around campus and using it during class. Is keeping in touch with your family and friends back home a must? Then you’ll want to purchase a laptop that comes with a built-in webcam and wi-fi. Do you simply want a laptop that you can play games on, download your favorite music onto and watch movies on? Then you’ll need to make sure the one you choose has a DVD player and/or the ability to burn CDs. Once you identify your reasons for needing a laptop, this will weed out the options that won’t serve your needs. The Almighty Price Price is always going to play a huge factor in choosing a laptop but it should not dictate what kind you ultimately buy. The good news is that many laptops are being offered at amazing deals. Look for specials that involve rebates or are discounted. Compare how much it would cost to build your laptop online versus purchasing one in a store. Use the Internet to do price comparisons from various retailers and see what fits into your budget. Remember, if you’re going to use your laptop throughout college and after graduation, the investment will be well worth it. Bring Backup Not quite consumer savvy when it comes to shopping around for laptops in the store? Then bring along a friend or family member that knows this type of item inside and out. While there are helpful store employees, having someone you know and trust to help you pick your perfect laptop will be more beneficial. Ask for his/her opinion and if the price is worth what the laptop comes with. |
